Highlights from the ComBioTES Workshop – Innovation in Thermal Energy Storage

The ComBioTES consortium gathered on 29 October 2025 at DTU Risø Campus and online, marking the culmination of six years of groundbreaking collaboration under the Horizon 2020 programme. The final workshop brought together partners, researchers, and stakeholders to reflect on achievements, share results, and showcase live demonstrations of the project’s innovations.

A Day of Breakthroughs and Collaboration

The event highlighted the journey of ComBioTES from concept to real‑world demonstration, underscoring the project’s contribution to advancing thermal energy storage (TES) solutions powered by bio‑based materials and intelligent energy systems.

Key Sessions Included:

  • ComBioTES Journey & Milestones – An overview of the consortium’s progress and impact.
  • PCM TES Concepts – Development and validation of phase‑change material thermal energy storage.
  • Scientific Characterization of the MUSIC Prototype – Insights from CEA Grenoble.
  • Real‑World Performance & EMS – Results from DTU Risø on prototype testing and energy management systems.
  • Software Tools & Assessments – WP6 contributions on benchmarking TES, decision support systems, and techno‑economic, environmental, and market evaluations.
  • Demo Site Visit – A live demonstration of the MUSIC prototype in action at SYSLAB.

Looking Ahead

The final workshop was not only a celebration of results but also a call to continue pushing the boundaries of clean energy innovation. The consortium’s work has laid a strong foundation for future advancements in sustainable energy storage technologies.
